  To oppose affirmative action qualifies one as a racist. To insist there are roles in society unfit for women, such as Navy carrier pilot, is to be branded a sexist. If you believe immigration is far too high for our social cohesion, you are a nativist or a xenophobe.

  For my Psych class I wrote an essay on the bestseller Blink. To my great delight, my teacher said it was the best essay he had read this year. One of his comments was: "How you begin your sentences makes your writing outstanding!"
  Getting high grades is fine, but learning writing skills for life is even better. Mary Duffy's Sentence Openers e-book has changed my life! I came from China one year ago, and now I feel Mary's book has leveled the playing field--I can compete and hold my own with the best students.
  
  In our Writing Center we learned about the structure of essays (theme, development, conclusion), but no one bothered to tell us how to open sentences. After reading Mary Duffy's e-book I now realize what had been missing from my writing. (K. Cheng).

  For years I've been on the lookout and praying for a fine resource book for my AP English courses, and my prayers have been answered. Mary Duffy' Sentence Openers is the textbook I will use from now on.
  
  Although the chapters on Sentence Openers are the core of the book, the sections on styling with syntax and rhetoric are superb.
